Oct 2004 (basic track);completed Nov 2004. I alluded to this earlier in the notes to Rejoice. We'd (finally) gotten pregnant, and were going to name our daughter Drew. The day after we found out we were going to have a girl, we took a song we'd started called Xcape, and started fleshing it out. We set the BPM at 164, as that was Drew's heart rate, and used a heartbeat sample for the kick drum. Dana had the idea of the song being from the point of view from a fetus, and set a song aside to complete it after Drew was born, so the ending would represent birth. Sadly, a few days later (on Tues 19 October), we suffered a miscarriage. Some say the best art results from the worst pain. I don't know how true that is, but it was cathartic to say the least. On a purely artistic level, it felt like the song was building towards to it in the first place, which honestly may be the most disturbing aspect of it. When we finished it, I added in a sample sound labeled as "ice cream" in the software, and slowed it down. Dana craved ice cream a lot while pregnant with Drew, and I felt it was appropriate.
Note: This song was released in a different mix for our 2020 album Dad's Journey.
